Debra Burton began writing poetry after she retired from teaching elementary school. During the summer of 2013 she read The Creative Call by Janice Elsheimer. This book inspired Debra to explore the creativity she had long ignored. Debra wrote in a journal for years and felt writing was her gift. Her poetry has appeared in issues of Time of Singing, a journal of Christian poetry.
During the past year Debra launched into writing for children. Her nonfiction article, “Counting Manatees” appeared in Clubhouse Jr. Magazine (Sept. 2016)
Debra enjoys the mentoring she receives as a member of Word Weavers International. She believes every adult can create art if they relax, turn down the noise of negativity, and stop comparing themselves to others.
Debra lives in Orlando, Florida with her husband, Herb, and their beagle, Buddy.
